Defeat The Monster
HOW TO PLAY
BASICS:
Attack: R1 / Left Click (sword swings)
Dodge Roll: Circle / B / Space (invincibility frames—use them)
Health: 3 hearts. No healing. No mid-fight mercy.
Stamina: Yellow bar under health. Every move costs. Empty = dead.
PHASES:
Phase 1 (100%-51%): Learning. Claw swipes. Ground slams. Predictable.
Phase 2 (50%-26%): Panic. Fire breath. Tail sweep. Faster.
Phase 3 (25%-0%): Desperation. Everything at once. No rules.
STRATEGY:
First attempt: Just watch. Learn the tells.
Monster roars before charging. Lifts foot before stomp. Eyes flash red before fire.
Hit the glowing chest. 2-3 hits. Then retreat. Greed kills.
Pillars block fire. Use them. They break after two hits.
When music stops, pray. When hands shake, breathe.
GAME FEATURES
WEAPONS:
Rusted Sword: Starter.
Hidden unlocks: Die by fire 5 times → Water Blade. Die by stomp 10 times → Faster dodges. Win without dying → One-hit kill (but you also die in one hit).
DEATH COUNTER:
Small in the corner. Never resets. By death 50, you stop noticing. By death 100, it feels like an old friend. It's not counting failures. It's counting tries.
ARENA:
Four pillars. Circular dust. Phase 3: ground cracks, lava seeps. Stand still too long and you burn. On attempt 50, a flower grows in the corner. Does nothing. Blooms anyway.
POST-GAME: Reflection Mode
Bench outside the arena. No enemies. No music. Just sunset. Sit forever. Game waits.
HIDDEN ACHIEVEMENT: "Still Here"
Sit on bench ten real minutes without pressing anything. No timer. No bar. Just sitting. Achievement text: "You stayed." Only 0.8% of players have it.
SOUND:
Music swells when winning. Fades when scared. Phase 3: silence. Just heartbeat. Just you. Monster's growls sound almost like crying. Roars almost like laughing.
NEW GAME PLUS:
Monster remembers. New moves. Hesitates before final blow—like it recognizes you. Beat it 10 times, it sits instead of dying. You sit too. Screen stays on as long as you do.
LORE:
Hidden fragments: "I was not always a monster." "We are both just trying to survive." Monster has no name. You name it yourself. On the night you finally win.
SECRET:
Sit on title screen ten minutes. Screen cracks. Your reflection stares back. Game was never about the monster.
THE REAL GAME
You fight. You die. You learn. You win.
But after victory fades, after controller drops—you sit there. Shaking. Breathing slow.
You think about all the times you came back. All the times you pressed continue. All the times you told yourself just one more try when your brain was foggy.
You weren't fighting the monster. You were fighting the part that wanted to stop.
Outside, sun setting. You didn't notice. Hours gone. Monster dead. Room feels smaller.
You turn off the game. Screen goes black.
In reflection, your own face. Tired. Human. Still here.
That's what defeating the monster means.
Not winning.
Just staying.
